Mixtape Club hosts Glasgow underground royalty with an incredible mix by Boosterhooch: an hour of wonky bangers, hard left turns and perfectly pitched curveballs from one of the UK’s most dynamic DJs.
60 minutes of no-holds-barred dance music, what kind of music do u play? is a masterclass in open format club DJing, expertly pinning together squelchy electro, mind-bending rave records and big jumps in tempo across a slew of club styles.
The tracklist leaps between Cleaners From Venus, Detroit electro and Reggaeton flips of Crazy Town’s ‘Butterfly’, and each move is as perfectly judged as it is expertly executed. It’s a perfect representation of the anything goes small club closing set that, really, should punctuate every great night out.
In Boosterhooch’s words: “the idea behind the mix was that it is an answer to the question of "what kind of music do you play?" that I am always a bit stumped by, and sort of follows a couple of closing sets I've done recently, especially Glasgow based ones where the club stops at 3 so you gotta cram everything into an hour (most recently after Finn at Stereo and then another sorta carte blanche I had at the Glasgow Autonomous Space at Halloween).
“Was originally gonna do a very precise Ableton stitched together mix but that's all I could do during the pandemic so it was too depressing to do that way this time and I recorded it at Subcity Radio instead. I have also been teaching a 6 week block of DJ classes lately and wanted to do right by my students and stick to my constant assertion that DJing is both easy and fun and that mistakes/hearing how a transition was done are ~real (bla bla).”
“It's basically an ode to getting massively excited about finding a new (to me) shite 80s electro tune on youtube and playing it in full in the club to my friends later. Also nice that for most of the songs in this mix I can picture the friend who I found it through or with :)”
